How to Apply Bronzer Like a Pro
Posted on November 21 2019
The right bronzer is great tool for any beauty arsenal. It can make your skin look like you have a sun-kissed tan, even when it's protected with sunscreen. You can also use it to wake up tired, pasty winter skin or to create the illusion of cheekbones while helping you play down some of your least favorite features. While bronzer can work wonders, if you use bronzer incorrectly, you can end up looking orangey like Mr. Trump. To prevent that, a few tips on applying bronzer will ensure you do it right every single time.
CHOOSE A BRONZER FOR YOUR SKINTONE
The first step is to choose the best bronzer for your skin type. You'll find it best to shy away from the shimmery bronzers, which can look a bit fake. Instead, choose a matte bronzer for a nice, natural finish or try different bronzor formulations:
- Pressed powder bronzer: the most commonly seen and easily used bronzer on the market. Comes in a compact for ease of use and transport. Suitable for all skin types, but especially oily or acne-prone. Try L'Oreal True Match (Azn $12)
- Loose powder bronzer: The lightest and most natural-appearing bronzers. Comes in some sort of a jar, which can be messy. Suitable for all skin types. Try CoverGirl Trublend Minerals ($6.99 Azn)
- Cream bronzer: Also extremely easy to apply and transport, as it usually comes in a compact or a jar. Can be easy to overdo, however. Can be mixed into liquid or cream foundation to instantly adjust your foundation's tone in case you tan in the summer. Gives a very natural appearance, as it melts into the skin instead of sitting on top of it. Most suitable for dry or normal skin types, as it can accentuate oilyness.
- Liquid bronzer: Very similar to cream bronzer, but in a thinner formulation. Also easy to apply and easy to overdo; can also be mixed into foundation to adjust its color. Usually comes in a glass bottle with a dropper, which can be cumbersome and messy to transport. Try these assortments of Bronzer and Bronzer brushes.
Applying bronzer will depend on the type of product you are working with. With powder, cream, and liquid bronzers described above, the choice is yours depending on personal preference, but the basic application is as follows:
First, the right tools matter for perfect application. Apply your chosen bronzing with a bronzing brush towards the hairline in a back and down motion on the temples and cheek bones.
Next, Lightly brush the bronzer on the forehead towards the hairline.
And then, Apply along the jaw line and down the neck.
Now, Apply back and forth across the chin.
Finally, Dust lightly back and forth over the nose.
